We started because digital navigation was failing the people who needed it most.
In 2023, a research team got lost in the Scottish Highlands because their mapping app showed a trail that had been closed for three years. Their phones died. The paper map they'd brought was designed for motorways, not mountain passes.
That incident wasn't unique. Every year, rescue services respond to hundreds of cases where people relied on technology that couldn't handle the reality of remote environments.
Our approach to cartography
We combine satellite imagery with field verification. Every trail we mark has been walked by someone on our team or confirmed by local guides. Every water source has GPS coordinates. Every shelter location is current within six months.
The maps are printed on waterproof synthetic paper that survives rain, submersion, and temperature extremes. We've tested them in sub-zero conditions in Norway and tropical humidity in Southeast Asia.
Why we're different
Most commercial maps are optimised for car navigation. Ours are designed for people who move on foot, by bicycle, or by kayak. That means different priorities: elevation detail, trail conditions, seasonal access, and emergency contact points.
We update our maps quarterly based on feedback from users. If someone reports a closed trail or a new route, we verify it and include it in the next print run.
The team
Our cartographers have backgrounds in geography, outdoor education, and expedition planning. Our field researchers include long-distance hikers, cycle tourers, and wilderness guides.
We work with OpenStreetMap contributors, national park services, and local hiking clubs to keep information current.
